Welcome to my life.

I was going to go to bed three hours ago. But my mind was racing due to an unwanted telephone call, so I ate half a loaf of sourdough, with boursin, drank ginger ale and watched Audrey Hepburn interviews on youtube.

Check out her outfit! Stunning. Audrey really is such a lovely role model for young women. Maybe it's silly to be annoyed that she's become "over" popularized/marketed to the point where it seems prosaic to say you adore her. Maybe it's absolutely ridiculous to turn away "Pseudo-Audrey Fans." There's room for everybody in the Hepburn Worship Circle. Okay, maybe "worship" is a bit over the top. You know what I mean.

Why I like France.

A lot of people have preconceived notions about France and its people.  In the states, we hear rumors of the French being snobby and rude and so on and so on.  Whatever.  I believe there are cultural differences everywhere, even within the same state and the same country.  I've only been to France once, and I had not one single bad experience (unless you count being a little annoyed by one or two of the girls on the trip with my French class now and then...).  I tried to speak French at all times when dealing with a French person and absolutely no one was the least bit impolite.

The food was fabulous.  I've come to realize that a nation's food has a great impact on me.  One of the things I miss the most about Australia is the food.  And in France, the sandwiches at the GAS STATION were unbelievably delicious.  How often have you Ever wanted to eat anything from a gas station in the US??

Obesity is increasing everywhere, they say, but I'm sure the problem can't be so bad in places like Europe where they aren't Quite as obsessed with buying people's souls with the use of advertising, sugar, pseudo-sugar, high fructose corn syrup, monoglycerides, partially hydrogenated oils, preservatives, etc, etc, etc... (as you can see, this is a pet peeve of mine).

People tend to (at least from what I can see) have a bit more style.  Dressing is fun over there. People seem to relish it more.  Here (pardon me if I begin to sound the snob, myself, maybe I am one, please forgive me) wearing clothes seems to be a trial and a chore.  There seems to be less personality in it, less general enjoyment.

The language is beautiful, and there seems to be (perhaps this is a very silly, naïve opinion...but I am good at those) an attitude of "what the hell, you only live once."  I feel like there is still an echo or Puritanism around every corner here, and though I am Not a Puritan (haha) it affects how I see myself.

Movies.  Jeunet's Amélie and A Very Long Engagement.  Faurez's La Vie en Rose and Ozon's 8 Women.

I've seen other French films but I think those are the Current favorites.  I recently re-watched 8 Women and it is just as crazy as I remembered.  The colors are Gorgeous, and the sets and costumes mingle so perfectly. Mmmm.  It's a delight to the eyes.  Here is Fanny Ardant being fabulous.  I want her costume.  And to look that amazing at fifty.

I'm the smartest girl you've ever spent the night with on the train.

I'm watching "North by Northwest."  The love story is so silly and enjoyable.  I'm cementing hair ideas into my brain from Eva Marie Saint.  Cary Grant has really been growing on me.  But I admit I prefer his younger days.

Hmmm I think that I think about deceased male celebrities too often.  I'm probably a bit crazy.  Oh well.  Who wants a Real love life?  Those things are horrible and messy and full of hell. Oh me.  The eternal optimist.

I wish there was somebody to talk to.  There.  You've found out the truth.  I have no life. (mwa mwaaaa)

My great aunt called the house once (back when I was living with ma mère) on a Friday night and asked me in a shocked tone, "You're home alone on DATE night??!!"  Ha ha.

Whatever, life.  At least PBS is here.  PBS can't let me down.  Here's a nice picture for whoever's passing by.

Dresses I would like to buy....but shouldn't.

Love is the Reason!

Sometimes I get bored...and decide to share a Blossom Dearie song with whoever will listen by creating a silly video.

The Third Man

"The Third Man" is possibly the best film noir ever made.  I've seen a nice amount of Humphrey Bogart movies.  I've seen Gilda, I've seen some film noirs.  Don't ask how many.  I don't know.

I love my Bogie but this film?  The way it looks and feels, the zither music by Anton Karas, the adorable rogue character played by Orson Welles.  Something about this film just really sets it apart.  I'm never very good at analyzing why I like something so much.  Maybe it's the way Vienna looks so real...because it is real.  So many old films are on sound stages that look like sound stages.  Post-war Vienna grounds everything in reality, a bit.  It's just marvelous.  I highly recommend.
